Through group work sessions held for children with incarcerated parent(s), Kids In Play (KIP) aims to:
Address the impact of incarceration on children and youth
Foster and strengthen the relationship between child and incarcerated parent through craft and activities
Provide a safe platform for children to express their thoughts and feelings
Enable children to have fun, make friends, and experience a sense of community
Activity details:
First Saturday of the month in January, February, April, May, July, August and October 2024 (7 sessions a year)
Timing: 1pm to 5:30pm
Venue: Devan Nair Institute, 80 Jurong East Street 21
The volunteer’s role is to:
Support staff team in carrying out the groupwork session for the respective age groups: 5 to 7 years old, 8 to 11 years old, 12 to 14 years old, and 15 to 18 years old. Volunteers may be involved in facilitating group activities for the program and in leading small group discussions with the children.
OR
Engage children under 5 years old in free play and independent activities so that caregivers can attend the support group. To provide a helping hand to caregivers handling multiple young children.
Criteria:
Able to commit for at least 1 year. Must be able to commit to a minimum of 5 out of 7 sessions in the year.

Kids In Play works with children from 5 to 18 years of age who face parental incarceration. Partnering closely with relevant social services, we provide professional support to the families of incarcerated parents, journeying with them during the difficult period of separation.
